MATERIALS:
- Fabric
- Scissors
- Staple Gun and Staples
- Nuts and Bolts (For Upholstery Buttons)
STEP 1: CHOOSE FABRIC
Look for fabric with colors or patterns that will hide the existing fabric once covered. Stick to fabrics for upholstery or heavier duty than quilting fabrics.
STEP 2: HOLES FOR BUTTONS
If you want to add or recover buttons make sure you drill holes through the wood from the bottom of the stool.
STEP 3: MEASURE AND CUT FABRIC TO FIT
STEP 4: STAPLE
Secure new fabric to bottom of stool with staple gun.
STEP 5: OPENINGS FOR BUTTONS
One by one, take a long bolt and push it through the holes in the bottom of the stool so it presses against your new fabric and you can see where it would poke through on top. Where the bolt needs to poke through, use the tip of your scissors blade to dig out a small opening.
STEP 5: COVER BOLTS/UPHOLSTER BUTTONS
Cut out small circles from your fabric and cover the head of the bolt with it. Use a little thread and wrap it around the fabric at the base of the bolt head to keep the fabric from coming away from the bolt.
STEP 6: SECURE BUTTONS TO OTTOMAN
Push the upholstered bolts through the holes made in the fabric and screw into the nut underneath the ottoman.
STEP 7: YAY!
